The Lang Research Group for Chemical Biology
Our lab works in the interdisciplinary area between chemistry and biology and we are especially active in developing novel tools to study and control biological processes.
We are especially interested in expanding the genetic code to endow proteins with new chemical functionalities beyond the 20 proteinogenic amino acids by site-specific incorporation of non-canoncial amino acids with tailored chemical and physical properties into proteins in living cells. Together with developments in in vivo chemistries that are amenable to and selective within physiological settings, these strategies will have a big impact on biological studies, as they enable exciting in cellulo applications and can address unmet challenges in studying and manipulating biological processes that are difficult to be tackled by more traditional approaches.
